Some of the functions of the National Identification and Registration Authority include:
- Administering the National Identification System and databases;
- Carrying out the functions of the Registrar-General;
- Developing appropriate systems and protocols for the security, secrecy, and necessary safeguards for the protection and confidentiality of the information stored in the National Databases (Civil Registration Databases and National Identification Databases);
- Developing policies, procedures and protocols for the collection, processing, storage, authentication and verification of information in the National Databases, consistent with data protection best practices, the National Identification and Registration Act 2021 and in conformity with the Data Protection Act;
