Who is implementing the NIDS?

< 1 min read

The implementation of the NIDS is spearheaded by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), with support from key public sector entities. The Office of the Registrar General, eGov Jamaica Limited, Jamaica Post, Tax Administration Jamaica and the Passport Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) continue to play a pivotal role in implementing the NIDS as sources of legacy identity information. The Government of Jamaica established the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) to take charge of the NIDS before issuing the first card. The government also established the National Identification and Registration Inspectorate (NIRI) to provide independent oversight of the NIDS and the Information Commissioner’s Office to ensure that the Authority complies with data protection and privacy rules.
